Orthodontics is the straightening of misplaced or crooked teeth.
The teeth are straightened by the use of various types
of appliance or brace.
Each patient is assessed individually. X -Rays and moulds of the teeth are taken.
Treatment would usually require the wearing of braces. Adjustments are then
made every 6 weeks or so (this may need to be done during children's school
times).
In some cases teeth may need to be removed to make room to straighten the others.
Great care is needed in looking after the teeth and braces. The
instructions we normally give are very important and are designed to prevent
damage to your teeth and gums
When the braces are removed we will make a retaining appliance to hold the teeth
in their straight positions.
There may be some relapse of the end result when retention stops.
Should I have orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontics is OPTIONAL.
We can individually assess your case, give you specific advice and arrange any
treatment.
The treatment may be carried out at the practice or, in difficult cases, by
the local consultant in Truro.
